Meet the GreenBuzz Zurich Volunteer Team!
We are proud to have a great and diverse team of sustainability professionals supporting our activities with their expert knowledge.
Meet Holger Hendrichs, our Topic Lead for Building & Construction. Holger works at greenTEG AG: Thermal Sensing Experts, an ETH spin-off active in the field of building technology and energy harvesting. At GreenBuzz, he pushes our activities in the sustainable construction stream.
Why did you choose to join the GreenBuzz Zurich team and what role do you play within the organisation?
As a very early member of GreenBuzz I was thrilled to meet here like-minded people and get to know about new areas of sustainability where I haven’t been in touch with experts before. I’m organizing sustainable building events and give a helping hand at other events from time to time.
In your opinion, what do you see as the biggest challenge for sustainability within your industry?
The biggest challenge is that everything needs to show directly a “positive business case”, but this is sometimes hard to show, given that regulatory regimes are often supporting non-sustainable solutions. A more long term oriented perspective where also rather “qualitative benefits’ are coming into play are often missed (especially in the buildings industry).
What is a positive development within your industry with regards to sustainability?
I think that the current Corona crisis can also be used in the building industry to push forward sustainability thinking! People are spending more time in their home (“home office”), hence less commuting and hopefully an improvement of residential homes also from an energetic aspect. The “green new deal” is one sign that some governments want to spend money now in improving the building stock!
