What is blended finance and why is it such a hot topic? This question will be answered at this innovation breakfast.
While there is no dispute over the fact that there is a financing gap to reach the SDGs, there is not enough talk on how to actually close it. Public capital is not enough and private capital is not willing given the risk-return profile of investments in emerging and frontier markets. And somewhere along the line of discussing funding and financing, the question of impact gets lost.
Blended finance, which ‘blends’ development and philanthropic capital with private capital to achieve objectives for both sides, might offer some solutions to address these challenges.
