GreenBuzz x ETH World Food Systems Center x RESPONSE: Virtual Thematic Event – The Need for Climate Resilient Food Systems
2nd June 2021, 17:30 - 19:30

This Virtual Thematic Event is co-organized with the World Food Systems Center of the ETH Zurich and the RESPONSE Doctoral Program of the Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center PSC of the Universities of Zurich and Basel.
We invite you to this Virtual Thematic Event, to discuss climate resilience in our food systems!
Food systems must provide sufficient, adequate and accessible food for all, in a sustainable way. They fundamentally influence the environment and well-being of the planet, the livelihoods of billions of people all around the world, and the nutrition and health of every human being. Many regions around the world are experiencing an increase in climate-related shocks, such as drought, natural disasters and pest outbreaks. This poses serious threats to farming activities and has major implications for sustaining rural livelihoods and food security.
Many of these drivers of change are hard to predict, and therefore hard to manage. Food systems are intrinsically complex: they comprise many different processes, value chains, actors and interactions; their outcomes affect multiple stakeholders and sectors in diverse and sometimes conflicting ways.
With so much uncertainty and complexity, we want to discuss one particular aspect during this event:
-How can science, industry and consumers work together and what can they each contribute to increase the resilience of food systems to climate change?
During the event we will highlight examples from science and industry and talk about the role of different stakeholders in the food system to increase resilience.
You will learn from topic experts and have the unique opportunity to interact with young scientists and specialists in their fields, who will give an insight to their current scientific work and answer your questions for example on current plant breeding technologies in a changing climate, land usage, and forage technology.
Food Systems influence all of our lives. Whether you’re a professional, academic or individual sustainability enthusiasts – everyone is welcome to get involved in this conversation.
Join us on June 2nd to discuss the future of food in a changing climate!
