More than ever, we feel how urgently we need to change the systems, which we have been living in and been part of. Covid-19 has shone a light on some of the uncomfortable truths and issues of, for example, our economic system or the complex value and supply chains that are an integral part of our consumer society.

Therefore, we feel that it is the perfect time to talk about systems change now!

Let’s discuss questions, such as:

  • Can the Covid-19 crisis create momentum for systems change?
  • Is this crisis an opportunity to push systems change forward?
  • What is needed so that governments and business leaders in Switzerland and across the world realize the importance of systems change and move from ambition to action?

A wonderful example of how this crisis can bring forth positive change is the city of Milan’s decision to drastically reduce car use after the lockdown. Read more about these great news here

What actually is systems change? It is an intentional process designed to change the status quo by shifting the function or structure of a system with purposeful interventions.

It is a journey which can require a radical change in people’s attitudes as well as in the ways people work. Systems change aims to bring about lasting change by altering underlying structures and supporting mechanisms, such as policies, routines, relationships, resources, power structures and values.

About the format:

This workshop will take place in the proven format of the ‘Unconference’. Food for thought for the topic-finding and discussions will be provided by Swiss author and executive director of the Denknetz think tank, Beat Ringger (in German), and by Joséphine von Mitschke-Collande, Systems Innovation and Ecosystem Lead for Climate-KIC.
